I listen to a lot of "focus" music when I'm drafting -- I can't do lyrics then either. But when I'm revising, I like to find songs that fit the emotional tenor of my story that I can use as touchstones to get into the right headspace. Then I will literally put that song on repeat and let it just seep into my subconscious while I work.
Sometimes, I will make playlists of songs, but that is usually for novel writing. The rest of the time, I like to use videos structured around the Pomodoro technique and they play music and background noises.
I also enjoy listening to instrumental music while I write, usually the soundtracks of my favorite movies, shows, and video games. When I was writing my novella Field Station Delta, I usually had the score to Close Encounters of the Third Kind on in the background! 👽🛸
I love listening to instrumental music while I write. I choose songs that go with the moment I’m writing, to better suit the part. My go to pieces of music are usually random Irish fantasy music on YouTube, or my favorite movie soundtracks.

"Focus" music sounds helpful, as well as listening to songs that fit the emotion of the story. Thanks for sharing!

Oh that's neat that there are videos for Pomodoros! That sounds useful.
I love listening to classical music or movie soundtracks while I'm writing. I find it distracting to listen to anything with words.
Same. And I love how much emotion is in classical and soundtracks.
Not only has this been helping my writing recently, but it's also inspired me to launch a couple of novelettes soon.

Irish fantasy music sounds intriguing, I'll have to check that out!
